Thanks Dann,
Got a copy earlier today, then _finally_ got a new harddrive today (only 15.3Gb though) so when I get that up & running I'll have a 2Gb partition with the tablebases of Scrappy's, so I should end up with a bone crushing 454 with tunnel ram too. When I can get some more memory, I guess it'll have a long duration high lifter aggresive cam shaft.
I might be too lazy to upgrade my CPU though.

Sorry if this has being asked before but what exactly is the difference between the tweaked version and the orginal version?
I understand the opening book is different but I've heard that it is also faster?
Basically what I want to know is can we be reasonably sure that the "tweaked" version is better than the orginal one that won...

Mostly, I make some arrays and strings bigger. I have tablebase files scattered all over and 100 characters is not big enough for my concatenated paths. I have many gigabytes of PGN and I like to make crazy books with it. But it takes a much bigger internal structure to handle it. I do a few initializations and other things to make lint shut up.

There is no way that you can know that. The original version was compiled under a different compiler for Linux and runs on XBoard, not WinBoard. Apples to oranges comparison.
