Gnuchess 5 time handling

I have tested somewhat Gnuchess 5 under Fritz and it seems to handle time very badly: in a 5 minuts game it answers in 2-3 seconds each move, while in a 10' game it uses not more than half of the time it has. This causes a performance ~300 elo below say Crafty, which is somewhat to much respect to other published elo data.
Did you noticed this behaviour too? Any hint?

GnuChess time managment is very bad! (in BLITZ)
From the version 4.x , and 5.x.
