Hi Dietter, Mogens and to all!
Ive tested Yace22 (both latest versions) in Winboard plus, Winboard 4.03 and Winboard 4.07 and in all the same mysterious problem: Ive edited and analized 23 positions with yace in analisys mode, in all yace works fine except in this position:
4KBkr/7p/6PP/4P3/8/3P1p2/8/8 w - - 0 1 (maybe a diabolic position..:-)
Here is the winnboard.debug and Yace.log from another position:
WinBoard Plus 4.0.7 + Yace

Whats happen? The devil? :-))
No devil, it's a bug. With your detailled description, I could reproduce
and find it in minutes. It's fixed here.
So, with current version of Yace, don't edit a position, that has
a white king on e8 and a black rook on h8. Yace want'st to do a black
king side castling :-( Sorry. Note that setboard FEN with the correct
castling rights doesn't have this problem. You can work around by setting
the king on d8 and do Ke8 in force mode.
About the ? moves in the book. You are correct, they don't work. Everything
else should work though. I am sorry again. In between, you can use ?! or
??, which both should work as advertized.
Sorry, and thanks again for you detailled and reproducable descriptions.
I think email of huge log parts should be sufficient.
Regards,
Dieter

What's wrong with the "?" comment?

As you know, the intention was, to make ? moves behave, as if they had
the minimum count of all available book moves. Due to a stupid typo,
they don't get the minimum count in Yace 0.22, but rather the count of
whichever move is the first in the list of all moves found in the book.
Probability is high, that this will be a rather large count, so ? really
behaves more like !, sorry.
People who want to use ? can contact me by email, and I will send a fixed
version, that also won't crash because of a white devil king on e8 after
position setup.

Dieter

Okay, now I see the problem. I was worried that something was wrong with the definition of "?" we talked about. Fortunately, I don't use that particular NAG in the books I've made, so I can wait for 0.23 :o). Any plans for features to implement in the next version?
Best wishes...

No concrete plans.
I think, it would be nice to show the PV of a mate in Analyze mode,
when the mate is found in the engame tables. Better support for ChessAssistant.
Better eval parameters. I have some code, that let you edit the Move List at the root.
So you can i.e. say don't try this and that move, but all others. Sort of
poor man's n best moves mode. But this can unfortunately not work under Winboard.
It's your turn, to suggest a new bet to the same conditions ;)

Except for the olympics, there's not a lot of sport events in the immidiate future. But if you have any suggestions let me know.
Have you thought about better Chessbase GUI support? The timemanagement under the Fritz light GUI doesn't seem perfect. There's also the possibility of making a native engine or an own GUI.
Best wishes...

A native chessbase engine would be nice but that's up to the people at chessbase..
As for the sugguestion of Yace having it's own gui, I don't think that's a good idea..Winboard is good enough for me..
Yace currently has implemented tablebases, analysis mode, takeback and various tuning modes..
However what about some book learning?
