Hi,
the tournament has come to the following stage in round #8:

Tournament: Millennium-Tournament
Results Mode Round No 8
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. SHREDDER4, (2) - (10) CHESSMASTER6000, 0:1
2. CHESS SYSTEM TAL 2.03, (12) - (1) REBEL-TIGER 12.0E, ½:½
3. JUNIOR6A, (11) - (5) REBEL-CENTURY 1.2, 1:0
4. HIARCS 7.32, (14) - (17) ZARKOV 45L, ½:½
5. FRITZ6A, (4) - (3) MCHESS8,
6. VIRTUAL CHESS2, (13) - (16) WCHESS 2000,
7. GENIUS6.5, (7) - (18) ANMON 5.06,
8. ISICHESS PADERBORN, (9) - (15) CRAFTY 17.07,
9. NIMZO2000B, (6) - (19) INSOMNIAC 0.61,
10. DIEP2, (8) - (20) COMET B15,

There was a game between Junior6a and Rebel-Century1.2 that ended
1-0 for Junior6a.
I got a complain by Ed about it, he wrote:
Hi Thorsten,
I checked this game and IMO you are playing with the standard
Century from cdrom. See move 26..b5? which can't be reproduced
with version 1.2
Ed
Thanks for your comment.
the game was played with version 1.2 (february 2000) says
the machine itself. it still had the game in the buffer
when i started it today to proof your comments.
it used w7 switch with 40 MB hash. windows95b without device-drivers.
Strongest settings is grey, i guess (when i am right) this means:
you cannot chose strongest settings since it IS in strongest
setting.
i let it compute from the scratch about 26...b5 and
the machine makes arround 204.000 (increasing) NPS.
9 28" -0.18 Rbc8
9.12 1'05 -0.14 Rd7
10 1'26" -0.28 Rd7
10.01 1'28" -0.17 Rbc8 (machine now makes 215.000 NPS)
10.37 2'44" -0.17 Rbc8 with 35.788.145 positions evaluated.
Junior considered 12'10" with +0.42/18 about Be4 and this was the pb-move
rebel-century expected after Rbc8 was made.
So the protocol further says that rebel-century only moved 6 seconds
on 26...b5. So we can consider that the whole thinking process was
done in the permanent brain time when junior computed on 26.Be4.
When you replay the game, even my rebel-century on my machine (so
same speed, same version, but now not permanent brain but active
computation) my rebel plays like above and moves after 2'44"
Rbc8. if we try to replay with exact permanent brain times and wait
12'10" before we input the move Be4 into the rebel-interface,
century1.2 plays Rd7 with the following main-line:
12.00 0" -0.25 Rd7 f4 Rf8 and 158.412.256 pos. evaluated.
but why didn't rebel play the same move in the same amount of time
in our reproduced game-situation ?
I guess the reason must be that the hash-tables from the real-game
were slighty different than the hash-tables from replaying it.
if we let rebel century 1.2 (in infinite) consider about 26...b5
we get more main-lines alike
11.01 5'24" -0.25 Rd7
12.00 13'21" -0.25 Rd7
and in the end
12.03 14'05" -0.17 b5
this is (IMO) within the range of understanding what has happened.
so we see: permanent brain together with different hash-tables
changes moves.
Here the complete game we are talking about:

a good example why replaying a game without using exactly the same time
per move gives different results.
permanent brain is important. also the hash tables have different
content when playing live or replaying a game.
A big and very long battle was fought between Fritz6a and Mchess8.
In the end Mchess lost.
the standing after this loss are the following:
