SOS help !!!

Weird, I'm sending a SOS signal for SOS program..
I'm totally stumped. I just can't get this to work..I have the cygwind1.dll(03/12/1999) file in the SOS directory, memory shouldn't be a problem with 64 mb running nothing but SOS the command line in winboard is similar to that of other programs ..
I can start winboard, but the chesseng refuses to move..
I sometimes have problems with say Gromit3.0 (Great program by the way) which takes some time to start but SOS just totally refuses to move..
So can anyone figure out what is wrong?

I sort of remember the same problem. There were two versions one from October and one from November. I don't remember which one worked but when the first one I tried didn't budge I tried the other one and it worked.
Good luck, its a strong program.

For me, the SOS.exe dated 991103 works fine - together with SOS.bk and
the cygwin1.dll. No strange things in the WinBoard.ini needed...

Interesting responses. One says the Nov version works for him, the other says the oct version while you are unsure.Anyone know why one version works for some while the other does not?
I saw a post stating that the Oct version doesn't work for Windows NT , anyway I using plain windows 98, let's see if the Oct version works..

It could be different version of ActiveX or any other different system files in different PCs even if the OS (e.g. win98) is the same.
Anyone know why one version works for some while the other does not?

looks like trial an error..
Anyway I just tried the Oct version and it works for me..Just as well, since i recall reading a post saying that the Oct version is better anyway..
I just wonder, will the new version of SOS be released soon?

I checked, I have the October version. The November version did not work on my
machine. I also have Windows 98 on an Amd K6 475 mghrtz machine. I wish I knew the answer to your question. It seems most winboard programs give me a hard time
but eventually I can get them to work. For instance, my machine blows up when pondering is on but works fine if its off AND I don't play engine vs engine. It is weird.

Oct version works for me as well but not the November..

I started playing around with Winboard around i think Nov/Dec 1999 (or when Crafty 1705 or 1706 was around I think) , the first chesseng I got to work was Fortress and after that I got most of the others to work..Some eluded me for a while due to special requirements like Gormit and or needed special commands in the command line.
Believe it or not, Crafty was one of the last few I got to work. I was always aware about Crafty's strenght and name even before I played around with winboard but I found Crafty's faq and readme.doc daunting..Though it was easy to work actually..
SOS eluded me untill today where I finally downloaded the Oct version and it worked..

Yes, some of the programs have some weird quirks..I've learnt to ignore them if they are minor..
For example, Goliath - When ever Goliath loses a game, when i start another game sometimes I get a automatic Goliath resigns. (Pondering not cleared?)
Knightx- Sometimes it just works after one game, then it goes dead when i try another game
etc etc

fine.

Using the November program,
SOS works running Win98 with 128mb on one pc,
SOS DOES NOT work on another PC with Win95 with 64mb.
