The program that Frank mentions in the news ticker "Queen" by Leen Ammeraal is a nice small program with it's own interface that works well. It seems like an idea free program for children because it's very easy to use and adjust the playing level down to play at easy to beat strengths.
Is this Leen Ammeraal's first Chess program? He seems to have quite a bit of programming backround & wrote several books that other people have used, but I never heard of him myself.

Don't know about chess programs, but he is an expert on algorithms, and his C++ books are very good. Somthing like a Dutch Robert Sedgewick type.
