Anyone tried building a book for GLC using the 2600.pgn file?
Using the normal default 15 ply, i got a 2.14 Mb opening book..
What is interesting is that GLC plays a wide range of openings as white..using that book
Including
1 b3 , 1 Nc3 , 1 d3 , 1 g4
Anyone else get the same thing?
On the plus side, it occasionally plays the King's Gambit..
Also it appears that GLC208a still has problems with time management at G/5..

i mean 1 b4..instead of 1g4.(nt)

Yes, that's one of the reasons I included it in my tournament. Less probability for doubles compared with other non-learning programs I think. It lost and drew with white against LG2000. I'm replaying the games where GLC played black, because there were problems. It might not like the /-reuse option.
Best wishes...

Indeed, few opening books will have 1 b4 in them...

Not bad..
Something to remember..and take note..

Sorry about that :) The opening book was a bit of a hack really in GLC. It was added under time pressure (!) and is a bit simple. It simply stores a binary version of the game tree (rather than a hash table).
When choosing moves from the book GLC currently just makes a list of the available moves from a position, and chooses one completely at random. This behaviour will change in time, but for now thats it I'm afraid.
Yes. I hadn't actually played any games with this type of time control before, so I hadn't seen the problem. It will be fixed in the next release.

Tim,
I just got around to trying GLC in Winboard today. I made a book from Sammy Reschevsky games. Everything seems to work well for me. It plays some very brutal games of Chess! I don't know how strong GLC is. It seems to search relatively fast as far as I can tell. It goes up to a serach depth of 10 really quick at time controls where other programs are probably only getting to maybe 7 or 8. This program should do a killer job in Chessbase interfaces.
