Ok, could some nice person out there explain to me, what this program is?? I haven't seen much about it. Is it strong? Is it even for Winboard?? If so where can I get it?? So many questions :)
Thanks,
Dan

It's an engine for Chessbase interfaces, it won't work with Winboard no matter what you try. Reports are that it's not really very strong (I'm sure it's stronger than me) so it's probably not worth feeling deprived about because we have some really great mid strength programs that do run in Winboard, Gromit and The Crazy Bishop come to mind first for me, as far as mid-strength programs go.

It is the Bobby program. See my tournament database for games in tournaments (WM ...). I think 2300 ELO. LCT II test better tactical results than Fritz 3, Fritz 4´, Hiarcs 4 and positional LCT II be worse than these programs.

A few weeks ago I played a Nunn match between Comet B09 and Doctor? 3.0 using
the Fritz6-Interface (60 min per game on K6-200). The result was:
Comet B09 - Doctor? 3.0 12.5 - 7.5 (+11,=3,-6) -> elo difference 90 points
Doctor? sometimes plays a very spectacular chess due to its very selective tree
search. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

BTW, Doctor is giving one heck of a headache to Crafty :)) When you watch Doctor vs Crafty it is as if a human master is playing against Crafty. I love that program and I believe that it is very much undervalued. It is surely over 2400 against humans, and about 2350 against computers.

Doctor? is an interesting engine I think ; but if you talk about mid-strength and talk about Gromit at the same time you might experience a great positive surprise if you try it at longer time controls :=) .

This is what I've heard about Gromit, that it's much stronger relative to other WB programs with long time controls. I love the way Gromit plays games against people (me) so that's why it came to mind right away.
As you may have guessed, I've never tried Doctor, only heard of it and it's stength relative to other Chessbase programs.
