Pete,
I rename the files, and put other files (autoexec.bat, config.sys) in the ZIP archive. This ZIP file was not the original file which send me the programmer.
The new version is identical but with the change that you can use the command line with the parameter -d... (see readme) for the tablebase configuration.
Kind regards
Frank

Thanks, I looked at your winboard.ini after I had posted that reply and got all of that working the way it's suppose to be with the newer download. This is much better than adding another path to autoexec.
Strong program.

Hello Pete,
hm, I think it is better when the pfad for the tablebases stand in the autoexec.bat. Roland Pfister make it so and the way are good. All programs can find the tablebases and we have not to many parameters.
Please look what Roland make ...
In my autoexec.bat stands (for Patzer) ...
SET NTBPath=d:\nal_4st
SET NTBCache=2
SET BBPath=d:\bitbases\
SET PatzResi=9
BitBases are special endgame databases from Roland. PatzResi = resign when in the evaluation ~ -9,00 pawn.
I think, the better way when all programmers use the same parameters :-))
I play many games with Knighx 1.4x (40 moves in 5 minutes)
Here the results ...
WinBoard 4.0.3 and 4.0.5
Techno 1.4x - Gromit 2.20 5,5 : 0,5
Techno 1.4x - Insomniac 0.60 2,0 : 4,0
Techno 1.4x - Nutx 3,5 : 2,5
Techno 1.4x - Patzer 3.08 4,5 : 1,5
Techno 1.4x - TCBishop 0045 4,5 : 1,5
Techno 1.4x - Arasan 5.3 2,5 : 3,5
Arasan is a tactical monster :-)
I play not games with longer time controls. I will play later, not time at the moment. I think that Knightx (Techno) play with ~ 2400 ELO and play an wonderful chess. I see that Techno give in two games the Bishop for 2 pawns and play aggressive with pawns in this position.
Kind regards

My autoexec file is filling up with things, and it was very full to start with because my old computer started out being completely 16 bit with Dos 6.22 & WFW.
And then there's a bunch of things that are commented out with "rem", for example, I was using tablebases with Comet32, until I realized that it ran with more hashtable size if it didn't use memory for tablebase cache, what the Dos Comet does is it uses whatever memory is available, but using tablebases used up 4 mb of memory, so it seems stronger without the tablebases. So it's more stuff remarked out in autoexec, it's a mess.
Are French Chess programs usually more aggressive with pawns? I think Dragon is, but I never noticed it with AnMon. The ghost of Philidor might be doing allot of the French programs :-)
