Comet is definately stronger than this result suggests. We had similar
results in our testmatches - it seems Comet just doesn't like Gromit 3.0s
style. On the other hand there are programs which Comet will beat but not
Gromit.
Strenght of programs isn't transitive at all
(a>b && b>c ==/==> a>c)

I agree, but it would appear that Gromit has improved in rapid-semirapid games, which is noteworthy. It still has trouble with Crafty though, but who hasn't )

Ignore the stupid comment about 4... Nf6 even tough Ruy Lopez generally is difficult for computers playing black.
