Can't get SOS to work

I've Downloaded SOS from Frank's site, and the book, set it up in Winboard, but it doesn't make a move -- just hangs as its time runs out. Any suggestions?

What operating system are you running? Which version did you download?

Did you remember to get a copy of the CYGWin1.dll library, which is necessary to make it work.
Best wishes...

Win 98. Downloaded version dated 03-11-99.

I'm not absolutely sure about this: the version dated 25-10-99 doesn't work with NT so I (only) guess that version will work with Win 98. In addition to Mogens' post: be sure to have an up-to-date version of cygwin.dll. In doubt copy the version coming with winboard to your windows directory.

Hmm... a very mysterious problem. I got two suggestions:
1) Try the older SOS version instead. I know that Aaron can't use the new version for some indetermined reason.
2) Post your WinBoard.ini data regarding SOS and what your SOS directory contains.
Sorry, but that's the best I can do without being physically present. Someone else might have better suggestions.
Best wishes...

It works just fine in Win98, at least the SOS I have does. It sounds like he has the path info correct in the winboard.ini file because it seems to acknowlage SOS without complaining (?), but it just won't make a move.
A guess for me would be that maybe the computer doesn't have enough memory for SOS. 32mb memory would be far too little to run SOS. The 40mb that I used to have wasn't enough, but it runs great with 64mb memory.
That's only a guess.

Pete, you've probably the nail on the head. The computer I'm trying to run SOS on has only 32 megs of RAM. Oh well.

I'm not a computer tech, but I play one on TV.
I wish that SOS had a hashtable adjustment, maybe in an ini file or a command line parameter like Phalanx has. Because now that I've been able to use SOS for a while, it's one of my favorite Winboard engines.
