Shredder for WB

Hi,
If I buy Shredder 4 can I hook it up in WB and play it on ICS ??
I heard you could hook up Shredder 3 on WB, I do not know if it could be played on ICS.

Stefan has interest on results with longer time controls. He give me the a WinBoard Code that I can play unter WinBoard. You can find more informations in older message in this forum.
I hope that the next version from the computer chess world master is compatible to WinBoard.

as I assume you are the same person who emailed me I answer here .
No. Shredder 4 isn't winboard-compatible .
As there were questions like this one before :
As far as I know every engine that runs under winboard can also be used to play on ICS . Reason is that all work is done by Winboard and the engine gets the moves from Winboard as usual .
Shredder 3 can be run under Winboard if you enter a certain secret code that is exclusive for every computer . This code you can only get by emailing the program author with the output of the "code"-command in Shredder3 and he might or might not want to give it to you (don't forget : Shredder3 is a program not under development anymore so his interest is maybe limited ) .
As Frank mentioned a longer explanation is in the Forum archives in a post by Djordje Vidanovic.

In Shredder 5 WB version, could I use Nalimov and powerbooks.ctg ??
I hope so, right now Nimzo2000b will not allow me use Nalimov or powerbooks.ctg!

Nalimov is a endgame database and the *.ctg openings books are for Chess-Base GUIs. You can use Nimzo 7-32 with powerbook.ctg !

Yes, I am aware of this as I own them all, as you know many WB programs allow Nalimov, perhaps Shredder 4 does as well; I have Shredder 2.0 only. In other words, the ultimate setup would be Shredder 5.0 with the following:
1) ICS option through WB;
2) Allow 'any' book including powerbooks.ctg;
3) Fritz Turbo Nalimov endgame disks; and
4) Shredder 5.0 sold separately from Millenium.
Unless, Shredder and the other programs follow the new paths available in the road people will not upgrade. If the author of Shredder 5.0 wants to increase and keep sales where they are these are the types of features people wish. Remember, Chessbase products are most commonly sold and purchased, let's allow people to tie them all together shall we, sort of a common language.
