on my pentium II 600mhz,
currently yace is in second place after crafty in my winboard 15 min tourny.
this one is a 60 min game with ponder=off. yace used the book from franks page.
I suspect yace is atleast 30-40 elo less than crafty.......not a bad start for a new program :).
thanks for a great rogram Dieter

I agree. I played 6 G/60 and some G/75 games . Yace didn't manage to win a single game.But had 3 draws..
Crafty has a very complex and good evalution function it seems to me..Yace being new seems to be inferior in this respect..

At this point, it seems to me that White has the advantage given that his Knight dominates black's bad bishop. Crafty scores this as +0.28 in it's favour, which I think is reasonable. But Yace scores this as +0.4ish in it's favour!

Still lots of interesting games. Usually involving material unbalanced positions. Eg Rook (Yace) vers 4 Pawns (Crafty) or Bishop,Rook,2 Pawns (Yace) vers Queen (Crafty)
The first was a draw. The second was won by Crafty..

Agreed. Yace can only continue to improve..

Could you post those two games, they sounded quite interesting! How could Crafty won with queen against bishop, rook and 2 pawns?? It must have been quite a "good" queen...

Well a Queen is definitely stronger than Bishop + Rook.. Add 2 pawns, the situation usually favours the side without the Queen IMHO, but it not a definite win..
But it all depends..
on the exact situation and depends if you know how to play..
So it's not really that surprising..
I remember Dy Hyatt posting that most programs tend to undervalue the Queen..But I think he was talking about 2 rooks vers Queen situation..
Crafty has a very good "understanding" of piece value dynamics that's for sure..
I'm looking for those games now..But i got quite a long savegame file, so it will take some time to dig it up..
