Winboard Plus -- just great!

To all Winboarders,
Winboard Plus, the recompiled and modified version of Winboard 4.0.7, by Marc S. Williams is great! I have just downloaded and tried it and it runs smoothly doing some of the things I've always wished for: black borders for white pieces and clipboard support (both for single positions and games). So now you needn't have a costly commercial to analyse your games on the fly: just invoke Crafty or any other WB engine that can analyse a game while you go through it! Winboard Plus offers also lots of improvement regarding ICS services. Thanks!

Hi,
I have forgotten (for the programmer) !
I have installed:
Windows NT4 SP6
NTFS
Dual Pentium III 733EB MHz, 384/133 MB Ram
Guillemot 3d Prophet (grafic) !
I think the reason is not the NT or the Hardware
but it is curious :-)

I've played a few moves and looked in all the menus... no problem so far with Winboard Plus and Windows 98, except one: The Gnu book doesn't work because the file gnuchess.dat is missing. I took it from another WB release and it works now.

I've also checked it out quite a bit on W95 and it works great for me. I simply copied the Winboard.ini file from my old winboard directory to the new Winboard Plus directory and therefore all my old settings work with the new features.

Winboard Plus works great on my machine running Win98. I went to run GNUchess 5.0 and the message came up that CYGWIN1.dll file was missing. I just copied it from my Phalanx folder and it now works great.
Thanks for the GNU opening tip. I thought it was rather slow in the opening.

Hi, both to Pete and Frank :)
It seems to be NT that's a little quirky... I am running Win 2000 here, no problems. Are you sure sure that the menues are not there? I mean the menue system's been changed so that you need to actually click on the item in order to get second level options.
It is not only the pieceset, it is the whole clipboard thing: you can actually simply copy and paste from all over (your ascii files with games, real PGN, Internet games etc) + the enhanced ICS functions.

BTW, The Crazy Bishop 0045 has just thrashed the new Yace (v. 21): 40-20 + 20 draws (game in five)...

Aside from the NT trouble mentioned in the other thread, I'm having
trouble using it on a chess server with Win98. More specifically it
seems to 'blank out' the line where you type your commands, so you
have to type everything blindly.

Gian-Carlo,
No problems whatsoever on ICC over here. I have tried WB Plus this afternoon, played two games using my computer account with a WB engine, everything was fine. It appears (??) that WB Plus runs fine only under Win 2000...

Hello all WinBoarders--
I'm very sorry to hear about the problems everyone is having with WinBoard Plus and Win NT. I compiled it using MSVC++6.0 under Win 98, and I did not have access to an NT system. I don't know what is wrong. Until I figure it out, the only thing I can suggest is recompiling the source on NT. Thank you everyone for your comments.

Hi Mark,
I hope you find the error. The new options are very interesting and I think that a lot of WinBoarders use now WB Plus.
Thanks
