New UCI engine : Vajolet

Postby Olivier Deville » 16 Jun 2010, 16:09

Found by Michael Diosi (again !)

http://code.google.com/p/vajolet/source ... t/release/

Marco Belli is the author

Not sure if it works properly yet.

To get it to compile you will need to add a file called stat.cs that contains the following:

Code: Select all
namespace chesslib
{

    public class stat
    {
        public static ulong mosse;
    }
}

There's no need to compile it. Just download the exe and the accompanying chesslib.dll.

http://vajolet.googlecode.com/svn/trunk ... .31.13.exe (exe direct link)
http://vajolet.googlecode.com/svn/trunk ... esslib.dll (chesslib.dll)

Sure, I have got the exe and the dll.

I tried the engine yesterday and it does not seem to work (yet).

Neither work here. Do not make moves at Winboard.

I think we need to let this one sit for a while. It's not ready for prime time yet.

Notified Marco about this thread. Perhaps he made some progress in the last week.

hi, I'm Marco, developer of Vajolet!
in the svn you should now find a new executable (0.33), you need both executable and dll file.

All the released exe should work with ARENA, but I suggest you only to try 0.33 release. please report me if the engine has a problem running in your environment.

Vajolet it's still a very basic engine, it's a c# 3.5 language, so you need the right framework installed into yuor PC.
it's strenght is somewhere between BREMBOCE 0.6.2_ja and FRANK 0.58.

Hi Marco

Sorry, I forgot to report the error ! The new version (0.33) crashes as soon as I try to launch the engine.

System : Windows XP Pro x32, latest .net frameworks installed

Hmm, I haven't had any problems with any version of this engine. I have the .NET Framework, version 4, under Windows 7 Home Premium, x64 version. On my other machine, I have XP Home 32 bit, with the 3.5 SP1 .NET framework, and it works fine there too. I am using Arena as my GUI.

I do have Visual Basic Express 2008 installed on both machines, so maybe that makes a difference...?

What is your operating system?
You can run the program winver to find out.

What is your .net version (folder names in here):
%systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework
Or run this thing:
http://www.tmgdevelopment.co.uk/versioncheck.htm

Did you install the engine as a UCI engine? It won't work as Winboard or Automatic under Arena

Here is an application I cobbled together that should tell you all about your system:

hi Oliver,

can you try running the engine without of any Gui?
simply launch the program... you souhld get an empty console open,
then if you write uci in it it should tell you some info from the engine.

if it crashed as soon as you you start it, maybe you haven't the right frmework installed, or you didn't copied chesslib.dll in the same directory of the executable file.

please let my know

Thanks all for helping :)

I have run Dann's tool on the machine that I am using for my Promo tournament, and it says all .NET versions up to 3.5sp1 are installed on my system. .NET 4 is not there, since no program requested it so far.

Here are the informations about the operating system :

Windows XP
Platform type: NT
Major version: 5
Minor version: 1
Build number: 2600
Service pack info: 0012FE6C
32-bit platform: true
64-bit platform: false

Vajolet 0.33 crashes as soon as I try to run it in console mode. At least the former version (0.31.13) was showing uci commands when I typed 'uci'. When I typed 'go', it displayed "bestmove" and crashed. The dll is present in the same directory as the exe.

Install this thing:
http://www.dependencywalker.com/depends22_x86.zip

and then run:
depends "vajolet 0.33.exe"
in the folder where you are keeping the chess program.

It will give a report of all the dll files, com objects, etc. that vajolet is looking for on your system and it will also tell us which ones are causing the problem.
